Davidson, N.C. – (April 1, 2023) – Davidson pounded out 18 hits and scored 23 runs on Saturday afternoon to defeat Fordham, 23-7, at Wilson Field in the second game of their Atlantic 10 series.
Like yesterday, Fordham found the scoreboard first, netting two runs in the opening frame on a two-run double by
Will Findlay.
The Wildcats answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Nick Calero and a two-run single by Justin Friend for a 3-2 lead.
The Rams then busted out the long ball, getting a solo home run by
Ryan Thiesse in the third inning and by
Tommy McAndrews in the fourth inning for a 4-3 advantage. For Thiesse, it was his first of the season and third of the year for McAndrews.
Davidson then took advantage of multiple walks and hit by pitches in the bottom of the fourth, rallying for 13 runs and a 16-4 lead. The Wildcats then tacked on four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh for their total of 23 runs scored.
Fordham's scoring finished with a sacrifice fly by Findlay in the fifth, and a two-run double by Thiesse in the sixth.
Gabe Karslo (2-3) took the loss, allowing nine runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings of work. At the plate, Thiesse was a career-best 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI, while McAndrews was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Findlay finished 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
The two teams conclude their series on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
