Jacksonville, Fla. – (March 5, 2023) – North Florida's Alex Lodise hit a home run and drove in four runs, as the Ospreys completed a four-game series sweep of the Fordham Rams by an 8-4 score at Harmon Stadium in Jacksonville.
After UNF took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly, Fordham answered with two runs in the third to grab a 2-1 lead.
Tommy McAndrews was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on a walk to
Chris Genaro. Following a sacrifice bunt,
Cian Sahler plated McAndrews with a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game at one. Two batters later,
Daniel Bucciero singled home Genaro from second for a 2-1 edge.
The Ospreys knotted the game at two in the bottom of the third without a hit, as they drew four walks for their second run of the game.
Fordham regained the lead in the top of the fifth with a quick rally, as
Ryan Thiesse led off with a walk and moved to third on a single by Sahler.
Peter DeMaria then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score for Thiesse for a 3-2 lead.
The lead was short lived as North Florida scored four times in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-3 advantage. The highlight of the inning was a three-run home run by Alex Lodise.
The Rams got back within two in the top of the seventh at 6-4, when McAndrews doubled home
Zach Selinger, who reached on a single.
North Florida though would score once in the seventh and eighth innings to finish off an 8-4 game.
For Fordham, Bucciero was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Selinger was 2-for-5 and a run scored. On the mound,
Dominic Cunha (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits over three innings of work with five strikeouts.
Fordham will next be in action on Tuesday, March 7
th, when the Rams begin a six-game homestand at Houlihan Park against Stony Brook at 3:00 PM.
