Rams Fall by 8-4 Score

Jacksonville, Fla. – (March 5, 2023) – North Florida's Alex Lodise hit a home run and drove in four runs, as the Ospreys completed a four-game series sweep of the Fordham Rams by an 8-4 score at Harmon Stadium in Jacksonville.

After UNF took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly, Fordham answered with two runs in the third to grab a 2-1 lead.  Tommy McAndrews was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on a walk to Chris Genaro.  Following a sacrifice bunt, Cian Sahler plated McAndrews with a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game at one.  Two batters later, Daniel Bucciero singled home Genaro from second for a 2-1 edge.

The Ospreys knotted the game at two in the bottom of the third without a hit, as they drew four walks for their second run of the game.

Fordham regained the lead in the top of the fifth with a quick rally, as Ryan Thiesse led off with a walk and moved to third on a single by Sahler.  Peter DeMaria then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score for Thiesse for a 3-2 lead.

The lead was short lived as North Florida scored four times in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-3 advantage.  The highlight of the inning was a three-run home run by Alex Lodise.

The Rams got back within two in the top of the seventh at 6-4, when McAndrews doubled home Zach Selinger, who reached on a single.

North Florida though would score once in the seventh and eighth innings to finish off an 8-4 game.

For Fordham, Bucciero was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Selinger was 2-for-5 and a run scored.  On the mound, Dominic Cunha (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits over three innings of work with five strikeouts.

Fordham will next be in action on Tuesday, March 7th, when the Rams begin a six-game homestand at Houlihan Park against Stony Brook at 3:00 PM.
