Baseball Extends Win Streak to Three

Gabe Karlso Goes Seven Strong Innings to Lead Rams to Win

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 11, 2023) – Efficiency was the name of the game on Saturday at Houlihan Park, as the Fordham Rams picked up their third straight win, 6-4, over the Quinnipiac Bobcats in just under two hours of baseball action.

The top of the first inning was a sign of things to come as it took just three pitches by Fordham starting pitcher Gabe Karslo to record three outs.  The bottom of the first also saw efficiency, as the Rams scored four times on offense for the initial lead.

Ryan Thiesse led off with an infield single and moved to second on a single by Cian Sahler.  After a double steal by Thiesse and Sahler, Daniel Bucciero doubled to right center to score Thiesse with Sahler going to third.  Will Findlay then lined a two-run double down the left field line for a 3-0 lead.  He later scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 advantage.

The game sped along to the fifth when the Bobcats struck twice to cut the Fordham lead in half.  Quinnipiac got an RBI-ground out by Matt DeRosa and an RBI-single by Christian Smith.

Fordham got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-single from Thiesse, which scored Tommy McAndrews, who reached on an error and stole second.

The Rams added another run in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 6-2 game.  With two outs, Bucciero drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a ground-rule double by Peter DeMaria.

The Bobcats made it interesting in the ninth, getting a two-run double by Sean Swenson to make it, 6-4, and bring the tying run to the plate with no outs.  However, Fordham reliever Nate Scott got a ground out and back-to-back strikeouts to close out his first save of the season.

For Fordham, Karslo (1-2) earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs over seven innings with three strikeouts, while at the plate, Findlay was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.  Thiesse also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a career-high three stolen bases.

The same two teams match up for the final game of the series on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
