Elon, N.C. – Fordham softball dropped its two Saturday contests, 8-2, to Michigan State and, 8-3, to James Madison. With the results, the Rams fall to 1-7 in the very early going.
Julia Petrovich's two-run blast in the fifth inning of game one against the Spartans cut the deficit to five but was the lone runs to cross for the offense. That home run came against reliever Madison Taylor after Ashley Miller had allowed just one baserunner over the first four frames.
Bailey Enoch, who reached on a HBP, was the other scorer, while
Sarah Taffet,
Julia Martine, and
Mary Grace O'Neill each notched a hit apiece. Enoch suffered her third loss in the circle, allowing seven runs on 3.2 innings before giving way to reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week
Holly Beeman, who allowed only four hits and a run over 3.1 frames.
Game two starter
Emilee Watkins got through two innings unscathed as Fordham went up 3-0 during that span.
Michaela Carter and Martine each singled in the first inning and came around to score on an error in the field. Petrovich drove in her third run of the day with a groundout in the third, scoring Taffet, who had led off with a single. James Madison struck back for two runs in the third and finally got to Watkins in the fifth to take the lead on a three-run home run and then a double and sac fly off
Devon Miller in relief.
Martine and O'Neill each recorded three hits between the two games, while Taffet had two. O'Neill also stole a base.
