Dallas, Texas – (February 17, 2023) – The Fordham baseball team got the 2023 season underway on Friday night at Horner Ballpark in Dallas, Texas, but not much went the Rams' way, falling to the Patriots by an 8-0 score.
Gabe Karslo (0-1) pitched well for the Rams over the first four innings, allowing just one run in the second inning on an RBI-single by Kodie Kolden, while posting three strikeouts.
Fordham kept the deficit at 1-0 into the sixth inning, where the Rams got two runners aboard on a single by
Ryan Thiesse and a walk to
Michael Brueser and a chance to tie the game. However,
Peter DeMaria, who recorded a double earlier in the game, struck out to end the potential rally.
The Patriots then posted a six-spot in the sixth, extending their lead to 7-0. Kolden recorded a two-run single to highlight the inning, while Jaxon Holder had an RBI-double.
Dallas Baptist added one more run in the seventh on a passed ball for the 8-0 final, as they held Fordham to only three hits in the game, while posting 18 strikeouts.
The same teams meet again on Saturday for game two of the series, starting at 3:00 PM.
