Six Rams Tally Double Figures in Monday Night Victory at Rose Hill

Fordham also tallied double-digit steals for the fifth straight game to start the year

BRONX, N.Y. – Behind a thrilling effort that saw six different Rams finish the game in double figures, Fordham University women's basketball defeated Georgian Court Monday night, 85-44 in the Rose Hill Gym.

Leading the pack of scorers for the Rams included Mandy McGurk who tallied a game high 15 points including a trio of three pointers, helping pace the Fordham offense with 40% shooting from beyond the arc. Cassidy Mahaney would have the first breakout game of her collegiate career, tallying a career-best 13 points while connecting on three consecutive treys in the opening quarter.

Recording double-digit points for the second game in a row Aminata Ly tallied 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting along with six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Kaila Berry would shoot an impressive 5-for-7 from the charity stripe and sink three shots from the field on five attempts, coming just one rebound shy of her first career double-double. Maranda Nyborg finished just shy of a double-dip as well with 10 points and nine rebounds on the night.

As a team, the Rams out-rebounded the Lions 44-35 while picking 14 steals to just four taken by Georgian Court, and finished an impressive 13-16 from the line, while shooting an even 50% from the field.

Despite Georgian Court opening the game with the first bucket, Fordham would open the game on a big run from there to take the lead. Sinking five baskets from the field and five free throws from that point, Fordham would tally 17 straight points to go up early in the game. Sinking a trio of threes in less than a three minute stretch of play to end the quarter Cassidy Mahaney would tally nine points in quick succession to give her team a 19-point cushion after one.

Georgian Court would counter with an impressive start to the second quarter, scoring 11 of the first 14 points to open the frame. Battling back in the latter half of the period the Rams bolstered their advantage, regaining a big lead, 41-22.

The second half would see the Rams outscore the Lions by 10, further pulling away in the contest, before a dominating final quarter put the game out of reach for the visitors.

The Rams will be back in action at the Rose Hill Gym for their next game Saturday afternoon, when they host UMass Lowell at 2:00 p.m.
