Rams Quintet Tallies Double Figures in Victory over UMass Lowell

Fordham claims its second victory in a row at the Rose Hill Gym

BRONX, N.Y. – For the second straight game, Fordham University women's basketball saw five different players tally double digit points, helping lead the Rams to a 76-49 victory over UMass Lowell Saturday night.

The quintet of double figure scorers all finished within two points of each other, paced by 14 points from Mandy McGurk who tallied seven makes on eight attempts from inside the arc. A trio of 13-point scorers included Maranda Nyborg who tallied four blocks, four rebounds, and three assists as well.

As a team, Fordham shot just shy of 50% from the field, while assisting on 17 of 31 made shots, and forcing 20 turnovers while committing just 13.

Elsewhere on offense Matilda Flood was named the Player of the Game with 13 points along with six boards, three assists, two steals, and one block, helping her side on all ends of the floor. Taylor Donaldson returned to the starting lineup and notched 12 points including a pair of three's while also pulling down three rebounds and dishing two assists.

Fordham would open the game firing off the first 12 points of the contest, forcing a UMass Lowell timeout just ahead of the midway point in the first quarter. Donaldson would return to form early with four of those points, as five different players tallied a bucket in the frame. Shutting out the Riverhawks for nearly seven minutes, the visitors would break through at the 3:20 mark of the quarter, the first of just two baskets allowed by the Rams in the opening quarter.

Scoring the first basket of the second quarter, UMass Lowell had an early three pointer answered early by Hayford, before the two sides went nearly bucket-for-bucket during much of the period. Cutting the deficit to as little as six just before the three minute mark, but consecutive makes from Hayford saw the Rams take a double-digit advantage into halftime.

Out of the break Fordham rattled off nine early points to stretch their lead, but only by a handful of points as the Riverhawks tallied six points in the opening stages of the half as well. The Rams would stretch their advantage in the latter half of the frame, taking a 23-point lead after three quarters.

Remaining even for much of the final quarter, each side mustered at least 19 points in the frame, with Fordham using a handful of late buckets to set the final score line.

The Rams will be back in action at the Rose Hill Gym Tuesday night with a 7:00 meeting with Saint Peter's on Mental Health Awareness day for Fordham women's basketball.
