Johnsen’s Late Strike Delivers Win Over Davidson

Freshman Midfielder Scores Game-Winning Goal in the 89th Minute

Bronx, N.Y. – (October 1, 2023) – The Fordham women's soccer team posted its second consecutive shutout on Sunday and got a goal in the 89th minute by Lena Johnsen to earn a 1-0 win over the Davidson Wildcats at Moglia Stadium.

With the win, Fordham improved to 2-1-2 in the Atlantic 10, 4-6-3 overall, while Davidson fell to 3-9-1 overall, 0-5-1 in the league.

After Thursday's scoreless draw with Dayton, today's game looked to be heading toward the same result until the 89th minute.  Cianna Elmazaj found Lena Johnsen near the top left side of the box in the final minutes.  Johnsen lined up a shot from 22 yards that glanced off the crossbar and into the net for her third goal of the season.

The Rams also got a second straight strong performance from goalkeeper Serena Mensah, who recorded her second consecutive shutout and earned her first win of the year.  Mensah tied her career-high with nine saves in the match.  Previously, she had nine saves in a match at Columbia last year.

Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, October 8th, when the Rams head to Rhode Island for a 1:00 PM match.
