New Haven, Conn. – Fordham volleyball won the first set of each of its two matches on day two of the Yale Invitational but ultimately fell in four sets in both, finishing nonconference play with a 6-5 record.
The Rams took on the host Bulldogs in the opening match but failed to capitalize on the latter's 21 errors in attack and 12 errors in service, falling 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 14-25. In Fordham's final match of the weekend, Villanova was victorious, 29-27, 23-25, 14-25, 21-25.
For the weekend,
Whitley Moody led the attack with 36 kills on 120 attempts, adding 29 digs, second-most on the team, and four aces, tied for tops.
Audrey Brown chipped in 26 kills and nine blocks.
Aria De La Rosa added 19 kills, hitting a team-best .188, and contributed 11 blocks at the net, bested only by
Chloe Pejouan's 14 that included four solo blocks.
Zoe Talabong notched double-digit kills for the first time this year against Villanova, tallying 12, and finished with 18 for the weekend, adding 28 digs, four aces, and five blocks.
Mallory Lipski averaged 4.09 digs per set, totaling 45, while
Megan Brzozowski racked up 74 assists, averaging 6.73, with 1.82 digs per set. Freshman
Bridget Brady made her collegiate debut on Saturday, finishing her two matches with seven kills and four blocks over five frames.
Moody was named to the All-Tournament team.
Fordham will now prepare for the beginning of Atlantic 10 action, starting with a rematch of last year's Championship meeting with Dayton. The Rams and Flyers will play at 6 p.m. on Friday inside the Rose Hill Gym and then again at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
