Bronx, N.Y. – (August 25, 2022) – The Fordham women's soccer team is back on the pitch this Friday afternoon, as the Rams finish their three-match road trip at Dartmouth to open the 2022 season.

Fordham (1-1) split its first two matches, but could easily have won both matches, if not for a crazy final two minutes against Stony Brook, where the Seawolves scored twice to win the match, 2-1.  The Rams did bounce back in game two, rallying from a 1-0 deficit to top Wagner by a 2-1 score on goals and
Caroline Monahan and
Carmen Hardwick.

For the Rams' opponent, this will be Dartmouth's opening match of the season.  The Big Green were picked sixth in the Ivy League preseason poll, while individually have one of the top players to watch this season according to United Soccer Coaches in Allie Winstanley.  Winstanley was a First Team All-Ivy League and Second Team All-Region selection in 2021 after leading the squad in goals (7), assists (6), points (20), and game-winning goals (3).

LAST TIME OUT: Fordham's
Carmen Hardwick knocked home the game-winning goal in the 69th minute, as the Rams rallied for a 2-1 win over the Wagner Seahawks at Hameline Field on Staten Island.

After a scoreless first half, Fordham (1-1) found itself trailing in the 59th minute, as Wagner cracked the scoreboard first.  Annie White played the ball into the box, which took an odd hop in front of Fordham goalkeeper
Maria O'Sullivan.  The ball got her to Madison Carr, who knocked the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead.

Just moments later in the 60th minute, the Rams answered back, leveling the match at one.
Julia Holton fed
Caroline Monahan on the far side, who one stepped around a defender and played the ball to the front of the net.  The ball took another strange hop, getting by a defender and the goalkeeper to even the game at one.  It was Monahan's first goal as a Ram.

The game-deciding marker came in the 69th minute, as
Kristen Cocozza received a pass and cut down toward the endline, crossing the ball toward the front of the net.
Carmen Hardwick quickly deflected the cross into the net for her first collegiate goal and a 2-1 Rams' advantage.

The Rams pressed to extend the lead, getting three more shots on frame, but the score would stay as a 2-1 victory.  For Fordham, O'Sullivan finished with a pair of saves, while Wagner's Sam Hughes ended with 10 saves.

TEAM CAPTAINS: The Fordham women's soccer team made its selections for team captains for the 2022 season, as senior
Kristen Cocozza and junior
Cambrie Arboreen will wear the captain armbands.

Cocozza has never missed a game in her three seasons at Fordham and been a staple on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.  A 2019 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection, she has earned a pair of weekly awards from the league and has been a timely scorer for the Rams with three game-winning goals.

Like Cocozza, Arboreen has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her first two years at Fordham and has shown to be a shining example to follow at Rose Hill.

FORDHAM FIRSTS: The Rams had a number of firsts through the opening two games of the season.  Three players,
Maura Murphy,
Caroline Monahan, and
Carmen Hardwick, all scored their first goal as a Ram in the opening weekend, while head coach
Magnus Nilerud registered his first coaching win at Fordham.

BACK FOR ANOTHER ROUND: The Rams' top scorer from a year ago is back in senior
Caitlin Kennedy.  A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, Kennedy netted a career-high five goals and 11 points in 2021.  She was the first Ram to have at least five goals since Brooke Salmon notched six in 2016.

FOREIGN IMPORTS: The Rams have spread their recruiting across the globe with five internationals on the team in 2021, representing the Ireland (
