Women’s Soccer Rallies Past Wagner, 2-1

Caroline Monahan and Carmen Hardwick Tally Goals for the Rams

Staten Island, N.Y. - (August 21, 2022) – Fordham's Carmen Hardwick knocked home the game-winning goal in the 69th minute, as the Rams rallied for a 2-1 win over the Wagner Seahawks at Hameline Field on Staten Island.

After a scoreless first half, Fordham (1-1) found itself trailing in the 59th minute, as Wagner cracked the scoreboard first.  Annie White played the ball into the box, which took an odd hop in front of Fordham goalkeeper Maria O'Sullivan.  The ball got her to Madison Carr, who knocked the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead.

Just moments later in the 60th minute, the Rams answered back, leveling the match at one.  Julia Holton fed Caroline Monahan on the far side, who one stepped around a defender and played the ball to the front of the net.  The ball took another strange hop, getting by a defender and the goalkeeper to even the game at one.  It was Monahan's first goal as a Ram.

The game-deciding marker came in the 69th minute, as Kristen Cocozza received a pass and cut down toward the endline, crossing the ball toward the front of the net.  Carmen Hardwick quickly deflected the cross into the net for her first collegiate goal and a 2-1 Rams' advantage.

The Rams pressed to extend the lead, getting three more shots on frame, but the score would stay as a 2-1 victory.

For Fordham, O'Sullivan finished with a pair of saves, while Wagner's Sam Hughes ended with 10 saves.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, August 26th, as the Rams head to Dartmouth for a 4:00 PM match.
