Kingston, R.I. – (May 8, 2022) – URI's Anthony DePino drove in six runs, which included four on a grand slam home run to lead the Rhode Island Rams to an 11-7 win over the Fordham Rams on Sunday at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, R.I.
Rhode Island (17-30, 11-7 A10) kicked off the game with a 4-0 lead in the first on a grand slam home run by Anthony DePino, his 15
th of the season.
URI made it 6-0 in the third, as DePino did the damage again with a two-run single.
Fordham (13-32, 6-12 A10) got into the game in the fourth, loading the bases on singles by
Andy Semo,
Zach Selinger, and
Sebastian Mexico.
Richard Grund drove in Semo with an infield single, while Selinger came in on a fielder's choice by
Chris Genaro to make it a 6-2 ballgame.
Rhode Island got those two runs back in the bottom of the frame, as after an error, Jack Cucinotta hit a two-run home run to left, his seventh of the year.
URI added to their lead with single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to go up by an 11-3 score. Fordham's third run came on a bases loaded walk to Semo in the seventh inning.
Fordham then scored four times in the ninth for the 11-7 final score, highlighted by a two-run double by
T.J. Wachter.
Ey (3-7) took the loss, allowing seven earn runs over four innings.
Beau Rottmann tossed three innings of relief, giving up three runs, while
Cory Wall pitched a scoreless eighth inning. At the plate, Selinger was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Wachter had a two-run double off the bench.
Fordham will next be in action on Friday, May 13
th, when the Rams host St. Bonaventure at Houlihan Park for a 3:00 start.
