Bronx, N.Y. – (May 13, 2022) – Behind a strong seven innings from starting pitcher
Gabe Karslo and multi-RBI games for
Andy Semo,
Cian Sahler, and
Jack Harnisch, the Fordham Rams took game one of a three-game series from the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 7-2, at Houlihan Park on Friday afternoon.
The unlucky Friday the 13
th moment for the Rams came in the first inning, as St. Bonaventure's Garrett Boldt led off the game with a solo home run to right, his first of the season.
Outside of that early deficit, Fordham took control of the game in the middle frames, scoring twice in the fourth and fifth innings for a 4-1 lead.
With two on and two out in the fourth inning,
Andy Semo roped a two-run double to right center for a 2-1 edge in favor of the Rams. Then in the fifth inning,
Jake Guercio and
David Kale reached base on back-to-back singles and moved into scoring position on a double steal.
Cian Sahler followed with a two run double to right center for a 4-1 advantage.
Gabe Karslo
Fordham continued to add to the lead in the sixth, as Semo singled to right center, stole second, and scored on an RBI-single by
C.J. Vazquez.
After the Bonnies scored a run on a ground out in the seventh, the Rams capped the scoring in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single up the middle by
Jack Harnisch to score Sahler and
Zach Selinger, who both reached base on singles.
The cushion was enough for Fordham starting pitcher
Gabe Karslo, as he won his second straight start to improve to 3-4 on the season. Karslo went seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Trey Maeker and
Connor Haywood each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close out the win.
At the plate, Semo and Sahler were both 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Harnisch also had a pair of RBI.
Game two of the series is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday with Senior Day ceremonies set for 12:45 PM.
