Richmond, Va. – (May 20, 2022) – VCU's Tyler Locklear hit a three-run home run in third inning, which ended up being enough, as the VCU Rams edged the Fordham Rams, 4-2, at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia.
The scoring started in the third inning, as with two on and no outs, Tyler Locklear launched a three-run home run to left, his 15
th of the season for VCU.
VCU made it 4-0 in the fourth on an RBI-single by Ben Nippolt.
The score remained that way due to Fordham reliever
Joseph Quintal, who pitched some brilliant middle relief, allowing just one hit over three innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Fordham then struck for two in the top of the seventh to close the gap to 4-2.
Jake Guercio connected on a two-out pinch-hit single, which was quicky followed by a two-run home run by
David Kale, his team-leading fourth of the season.
Fordham would get the tying run to the plate in the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to score against VCU reliever Jack Masloff, who earned his fourth save of the season.
Gabe Karslo (3-5) took the loss for Fordham, allowing four runs on seen hits over four innings of work.
Brooks Ey made his first relief appearance in the eighth inning, pitching a scoreless frame. At the plate, Kale was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Guercio (single),
T.J. Wachter (double), and
Andy Semo (single) had the remaining hits for Fordham.
The series and regular season finale for Fordham is set for 2:00 PM on Saturday.
