Richmond, Va. – (May 21, 2022) – VCU's Tyler Locklear continued to be a one-person wrecking crew against the Fordham Rams on Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBI, leading his team to a 12-5 series finale win over Fordham at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia.
After VCU took a 2-0 lead in the first, Fordham answered with a run in the second, as the team loaded the bases with
Jake Guercio drawing a walk to force in a run.
VCU extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the second, when Locklear homered for the third consecutive game, a three-run shot.
Fordham stayed within striking distance in the third inning, netting a pair of runs to make it a 5-3 score. With runners at first and second,
Jack Harnisch singled through the right side to score
C.J. Vazquez from second. The Rams then loaded the bases with
Casey Brown drawing a walk to force in another run.
VCU though would score twice in the bottom of the third and five times in the fifth to take a 12-3 lead.
Fordham's final scoring came in the sixth inning on a two-run double from Harnisch, scoring
Andy Semo and
Chris Genaro.
Five Fordham pitchers threw in the game.
Cian Sahler (2-3) took the loss, allowing three earned runs over two innings.
Trey Maeker pitched the next two innings, allowing two runs, while Connor Hayward gave up five runs in his one inning of work.
Jack Popolizio pitched a scoreless inning with
Brooks Ey tossing two scoreless innings of relief.
At the plate, Harnisch was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and three RBI, while Semo was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. The remaining hits in the game for Fordham belonged to
Zach Selinger (single),
Richard Grund (single),
Sebastian Mexico (single), and
Casey Brown (single).
With the loss, Fordham finishes the season at 16-36 overall, 9-15 in the Atlantic 10.
