Softball Splits Midweek Doubleheader at Army

Rams Rally for 7-2 Win in Game One, Fall, 3-0, in Game Two

West Point, N.Y. – Fordham softball and Army split a midweek doubleheader with the Rams rallying to take game one, 7-2, before falling, 3-0, in game two. With the day's results, Fordham moves to 20-18 overall.

It took five innings for the Fordham offense to break through against Emily Iannotti in game one but once it did, the Rams took hold and never looked back, plating three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh. In the fifth, Michaela Carter's fielder's choice allowed Sarah Taffet to score and Hubertus drove her and Brianna Pinto in with a single to left, all with two outs, to take the lead, 3-2. It was Hubertus again in the seventh to drive in a pair, doubling to left center with the bases loaded to expand the lead to three. The next batter, Julia Martine, made it a four-run lead with a sacrifice fly to score Carter, and Mallory McClellan, running for Hubertus, scored on a wild pitch moments later.

Devon Miller earned her seventh win of the year with just two runs allowed over four innings, striking out four, before giving way to Emilee Watkins, who tallied her first career save with three scoreless frames, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out one.

The difference in game two were three unearned runs in the third inning on two errors. With the bases loaded and one out, Makenzie McGrath struck out Leyla Hurst but opposing pitcher Jolie Duong plated the go-ahead runs with a single up the middle. It was all the damage McGrath would allow, finishing with eight strikeouts and just four hits and a walk allowed, but suffering her fifth loss.

Bailey Enoch led the way with a pair of singles, with Pinto, Carter, and Martine also notching a hit apiece.

Fordham returns to action this weekend at George Mason for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
