Softball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at George Mason

Rams Outscore Patriots, 6-2, Behind Two More Stellar Pitching Efforts From Miller, McGrath

Fairfax, Va. – Fordham softball kicked off a road three-game series at George Mason with a Saturday sweep, taking game one, 2-0, and game two, 4-2, behind more terrific efforts in the circle from Devon Miller and Makenzie McGrath. With the wins, the Rams improve to 22-18 overall and 10-6 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Patriots fall to 17-24 and 6-11, respectively.

Miller tossed her 10th career shutout in game one, moving into solo seventh all-time, striking out three and allowing just four hits and two walks over seven frames. All the run support she would need came on Sarah Taffet's third-inning solo home run, the third of her campaign, although Allie Clark would double the lead with a two-bagger, scoring Julia Martine, in the fourth. The Rams were limited to just four hits themselves in the contest, with the other two coming from Martine, a triple, and Brianna Pinto, a single plus a steal.

A wild third inning in game two proved to be the difference, with the hosts committing all three of their errors in the frame. Kelly Bright led off with a double and scored on a passed ball. Pinto was hit by a pitch and stole second to put two runners in scoring position, and Rachel Hubertus' groundout made it a two-run game. Martine walked, stole second, and then Pinto scored on an error on an Enoch hit. Moments later, Sydney Wells drove in Martine with an opposite-way single. The Patriots responded the following inning with a couple of runs, on a double and a single, with two outs, though McGrath escaped the jam and then kept Mason off the board the rest of the way.

Both of McGrath runs were unearned, with the senior allowed five hits and five walks and striking out seven. Enoch led the way with a pair of hits, while Bright also reached base safely twice.

The Rams and Patriots will conclude the weekend series tomorrow at 1 p.m. That contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
