Hempstead, N.Y. – Fordham softball picked up a road win, 3-2, at Hofstra at Bill Edwards Stadium on Wednesday evening, to improve to 18-15 overall and 6-6 in true road contests this year.
Sophomore
Bailey Enoch rebounded from a pair of first-inning unearned runs to silence the Pride bats over the next five-plus innings to earn her fourth win of the year. Enoch cruised through the middle frames but ran into trouble with a lead-off single in the seventh and then a walk to put two runners on with nobody out. In came senior
Makenzie McGrath to gut out her third career save. McGrath induced a foulout but the bases became loaded due to a fielder's choice by
Allie Clark, who attempted to tag the runner out advancing to second base. McGrath struck out pinch-hitting Abby Meehan and then got Meghan Giordano to pop out to shallow right to Clark to seal the victory.
Fordham did its damage at the dish in the second and third innings.
Amanda Carey powered her third home run of the season the opposite way to halve the deficit in the second and the offense plated two runs in the next frame to take the lead for good. In that inning, Clark walked, stole second, and moved to third on a rare
Rachel Hubertus infield single.
Julia Martine reached on an error to load the bases and Enoch helped her own cause out by lacing a single up the middle to score Clark to tie the game. The next batter,
Michaela Carter, brought home
Gigi Speer, pinch-running for Hubertus, for the go-ahead run with a groundout.
Each of Clark, Enoch, and Carey all reached twice safely in the contest; Clark walked twice, Enoch singled and walked, and Carey homered and singled. In addition to Hubertus, Martine, hit by a pitch for the sixth time this year, was the other baserunner.
Fordham returns to the Bronx and to Atlantic 10 action this weekend by hosting Saint Joseph's for a three-game series. The Rams and Hawks will play one on Friday at 11 a.m. and then a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
