Baseball Drops Extra-Inning Affair to Marist

Zach Selinger Goes 3-for-5 for Fordham, while Brooks Ey Strikes Out Season-High Seven

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 18, 2022) – With the game tied at four in the 11th inning, Marist's Ethan Farino lined a two-run single to left, which put the Red Foxes up for good, as they topped the Fordham Rams, 10-4, in the series opener at Houlihan Park.

Marist (7-6) opened the scoring right away in the first inning, netting a pair of runs on an RBI-double by Reece Armitage and a sacrifice fly by Dylan Hoy.

The Red Foxes extended the lead to 3-0 in the third on an RBI-ground out by Hoy before Fordham got on the board in the bottom of the frame.  After a two-out walk to T.J. Wachter, Andy Semo hit a ground ball to third, which the third baseman threw away, allowing Wachter to score all the way from first base.

Fordham cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, when Ryan Thiesse led off with a solo home run to left, his first of the season.

The Rams then grabbed a 4-3 lead in the sixth.  With runners at first and second and one out, pinch-hitter Sebastian Mexico drove a single to left to load the bases, but the left fielder overran the ball, which allowed Zach Selinger to score.  Wachter later singled up the middle to score to score Chris Genaro to give the Rams the lead.

The lead held up until the eighth, when Marist tied the game on a bases loaded walk to Nathan Lincoln.

The score stayed tied at four all the way to the 11th, when the Red Foxes broke through for six runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Ethan Farino and a three-run double by Marco Ali to secure the 10-4 win.

For Fordham, Selinger led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a double and run scored, while Mexico had a pair of hits.  On the mound, Brooks Ey received a no-decision, pitching a season-long six innings, allowing one earned run with a season-best seven strikeouts.

The same two teams will go at it again on Saturday at Houlihan Park with game time set for 1:00 PM.
