Softball Sweeps Stony Brook in Midweek Doubleheader

Rams Outscore Seawolves, 9-0, over Final 10 Frames

Bronx, N.Y. – Make it three wins in a row for Fordham softball after Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of nearby rival Stony Brook, 3-2 and 6-0. With the wins, the Rams will re-enter A-10 play this weekend with a 9-10 overall record, while the Seawolves fall to 9-7.

It took four innings for the Fordham offense to get going but from that point on in game one, the Rams outscored their opponents, 9-0. Stony Brook's Dawn Bodrug pitched a stellar game, striking out 12, but Rachel Hubertus' mammoth two-run shot in the fourth tied the game up, 2-2, and Mary Grace O'Neill, pinch-running for Hubertus in the sixth, scored all the way from second after successfully stealing second and a throwing error by catcher Corinne Badger.

In the circle, freshman Emilee Watkins made her second career start and limited the visitors to just two third-inning runs, a two-run, two-out single by Catherine Kupinski, while striking out three over 4.1 frames. Junior Devon Miller came on in relief, striking out both batters faced in the fifth frame and allowing just two baserunners over 2.2 total innings to pick up her second win of the year.

It took four innings again to get to Stony Brook starter Shelbi Denman, but all the offense needed was one run as Bailey Enoch and Makenzie McGrath combined to shut out the opposition. In that inning, Brianna Pinto reached on an error and scampered all the way to third, scoring moments later on a Sydney Wells groundout. Another error led to two unearned runs scoring for Fordham, one on a Michaela Carter single and another on a Bella Ayala groundout. Julia Martine put an exclamation mark on the day with a three-run blast in the fifth.

Enoch rebounded from a rough outing on Monday in spectacular fashion, striking out a career-high seven batters, four more than her previous best, while allowing five hits, two walks, and a hit batter over six frames before giving way to McGrath, who allowed one single but struck out two in her lone inning.

The Rams return to action this weekend in a much-anticipated three-game series at George Washington. Sunday's series finale will be streamed live on ESPN+.
