Devon Miller's eighth career shutout and four home runs, Fordham softball split Saturday's doubleheader, falling to South Carolina, 8-0, in five innings, but defeating Coastal Carolina, 6-0, in the nightcap. With the results, Fordham moves to 3-6 overall.
Senior
Julia Martine smacked two solo home runs, the second multi-homer game of her career, including what proved to be all the run support Miller would need in the second inning. Miller aided her cause with a solo shot in the fourth and
Rachel Hubertus moved into the all-time top-10 with her 24
th career round-tripper, also driving in a run through a bases-loaded groundout.
Michaela Carter also notched a RBI single, driving in Miller, in the second.
Miller carried a perfect game through four innings before allowing her first hit, finishing with just two singles and a walk to go with nine strikeouts. Four Rams reached base twice in the contest.
The Gamecocks got to
Bailey Enoch early, plating five runs in the opening frame, one unearned, before three more runs crossed home in the fourth. Enoch struck out two over her four frames. Carter, with a single and a walk, reached twice, while
Bella Ayala (single) and
Sydney Wells (walk) also reached once each in the game.
Fordham and Marshall wrap up the weekend on Sunday at 10 a.m.
