Baseball Drops Season Opener at Texas A&M

Rams Unable to Hold Early Lead Against Aggies

College Station, Texas – (February 18, 2022) – Texas A&M's Trevor Werner had a big debut for the Aggies on opening day in college baseball, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, as he led his team to a 13-1 win over the Fordham Rams at Blue Bell Park in Texas.

The Fordham Rams got out of the gate quickly in the first inning, grabbing a 1-0 lead.  Jake Guercio was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a ground out.  Will Findlay then struck a single up the middle to score Guercio from second.

Gabe Karslo made the opening day start for the Rams and kept Texas A&M off the scoreboard in the first but was unable to do so in the second and third innings.  The Aggies scored runs on an RBI-double by Werner in the second and a sacrifice fly by Austin Bost to take a 2-1 lead.

The Aggies extended the lead to 5-1 in the fifth, highlighted by another RBI-double from Werner.

Texas A&M then broke the game open with an eight-run seventh inning for the 11-1 final score.

Karslo (0-1) went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.  Ben Kovel went two innings of relief, allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts, while James Springer posted 1.2 innings of relief with all five outs being strikeouts.

At the plate, Fordham managed just four hits in the game with Guercio, Findlay, T.J. Wachter, and Richard Grund each having a hit.
