College Station, Texas – (February 19, 2022) – Fordham's pitching duo of
Brooks Ey and
Cameron Knox kept the Rams in striking distance against the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday afternoon, but Aggies' starter Micah Dallas was a touch better, allowing one run over 6.1 innings, in a 5-3 win at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas.
The Aggies jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five innings, scoring once in the first and twice in the fourth and fifth innings.
After picking up a run on a sacrifice fly in the first, Texas A&M got a solo home run by Trevor Werner in the second, as well as another sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead. Then, Werner had an RBI-double in the fifth and later scored on an error.
Fordham got on the scoreboard on the seventh, as
Jack Harnisch and
Andy Semo opened the frame with back-to-back singles.
Casey Brown then delivered a pinch-hit double into the left field corner, scoring Harnisch from second.
Brooks Ey
The Rams pulled within two in the eighth at 5-3, courtesy of an Aggies error.
Jason Coules was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second after a walk to
Will Findlay. After a ground out moved the runners up, Semo hit a ground ball back to the pitcher, who threw the ball away to first, allowing Coules and Findlay to score.
That brought Brown to the plate as the potential tying run, but his grounder was snagged by the first baseman to end the rally.
Robert Hogan then kept Fordham at bay in the ninth to record his first save with Micah Dallas earning his first win.
For Fordham,
Brooks Ey (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over five innings with three strikeouts, while
Cameron Knox pitched three scoreless innings of relief, giving up just two hits. At the plate, Vazquez and Semo each had two hits in the game to lead the offense.
The same two teams will conclude their series on Sunday with a 1:00 PM game.
