Amherst, Mass. – (October 23, 2022) – It was an uphill battle for the Fordham women's soccer team on Sunday, needing a win and help to qualify for the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship. The Rams were able to accomplish the first part, scoring in the 88
th minute to record a 1-0 win over the Massachusetts Minutewomen at Rudd Field in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The Rams then picked up some help with La Salle falling to Davidson. However, Loyola Chicago held on for a 1-0 win at Richmond to match Fordham at 13 points in the standings with the tiebreaker going to the Ramblers.
After 87 minutes of scoreless action this afternoon, Fordham earned a corner kick after
Kristen Cocozza's shot deflected off a UMass defender and over the endline.
Caroline Monahan took the corner kick, finding
Maura Murphy for the header goal inside the near post for her second goal of the season.
Fordham goalkeeper
Kyla King made five saves in net to record her first career shutout.
The win was also a milestone victory for first-year head coach
Magnus Nilerud, as it was his 300
th career coaching win. (295 at Bridgeport; 5 at Fordham)
Fordham ends their season at 5-11-1 overall, 4-5-1 in the Atlantic 10.
