Washington, D.C. – Fordham volleyball avenged a loss Friday against George Washington with Saturday afternoon's comeback four-set victory in the nation's capital, 16-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21. With the win, the Rams improve to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in Atlantic 10 action.
The Colonials were all over the visitors in the opening frame, mimicking their start to yesterday's match, but Fordham brought on
Audrey Brown to join the starters and the Rams' fortunes immediately turned. Fordham took an early 8-4 lead, prompting a GW timeout, and continued to steadily build its lead in the frame, eventually shifting into double figures and withstanding a late rally to even the match.
After the two schools traded several points to begin the third, Fordham rattled off eight consecutive points thanks to a trio of Colonial attack errors, a trio of points, kill or block, from
Chloe Pejouan, and a
Whitley Moody kill. George Washington would get within five, 19-14, but the Rams closed on a 6-2 run. The final frame was a series of runs, the final of which was Fordham's 7-0 run out of a break to overturn a 16-15 deficit and make it 22-16. The Colonials moved within three but never threatened thereafter as the visitors sealed the comeback.
Moody finished with a match-high 19 kills, hitting .286 (19-5-49), with seven digs, three aces, and two blocks, while Brown came off the bench for 14 kills, hitting .400.
Aria De La Rosa added nine at a .381 clip with three blocks and
Zoe Talabong contributed seven kills to go with her 12 digs. Pejouan finished with a match-high five blocks, two solo, also notching five kills, while
Megan Brzozowski picked up a 42-assist, 12-dig double-double with three kills, two blocks, and an ace.
Fordham hit .319 as a group, the second-highest mark of the season, with seven aces and eight blocks, winning despite the second-most service errors, nine, of the year thus far.
The Rams remain on the road for two matches with Davidson next weekend on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
