Box Score Washington, D.C. – Those who play chess understand that the bishop is the most aggressive attacking minor piece in the game. The bishop can be your best friend or your worst ally if you don't pay attention to it. Unfortunately, the Fordham men's basketball squad met a different kind of Bishop but one that proved to be its worst enemy as George Washington's James Bishop scored a game-high 25 points, including eight straight in a late Colonial run, to lead GW past the Rams, 64-55, in an Atlantic 10 game in the Smith Center.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-10 overall, 2-5 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington improves to 7-12 overall, 3-4 in the conference.
Graduate student guard
Darius Quisenberry led the Rams with 15 points while grad student forward
Chuba Ohams notched another double-double, his eleventh of the season, with 13 points and ten rebounds. Sophomore guard
Kyle Rose also finished in double figures with 13 points for Fordham.
The Rams used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to take a 49-44 lead on a pair of Quisenberry free throws with 6:15 left. But the Colonials responded with 12 unanswered points to take a 56-49 lead on a Bishop three with 3:08 on the clock.
A Rose three pulled the Rams within four, 56-53, with 2:25 remaining but that was as close as Fordham could get.
After a slow start by both teams, the Colonials took an 11-7 lead 7:28 into the game before the Rams used an 8-4 spurt to knot the game at 15 on a Zach Riley three midway through the half.
Later in the half, George Washington went on a 10-1 run to turn a 19-17 lead into a 29-18 advantage with 3:48 remaining but the Rams scored the final four points of the half to cut the deficit to 29-21 at the break.
