Dayton, Ohio – Fordham women's basketball suffered a 52-48 loss at Dayton on Sunday afternoon, snapping a four-game win streak. With the result, the Rams fall to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Flyers improve to 14-3 and 5-0, respectively.
In a typically defensive and feisty affair with Dayton, the Rams took a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter, their largest of the afternoon. Fordham had maintained a slight advantage for much of the contest, leading for 22 total minutes. The hosts chipped the lead down to four, 45-41, before a crucial
Kaitlyn Downey three with five minutes to play that bled into the media timeout. Out of the break, though, it was all Dayton, rallying and passing Fordham to end the game on an 11-0 run over the final three minutes.
Anna DeWolfe scored a game-high 14 points, adding four boards, three assists, and a steal across 40 minutes, while
Asiah Dingle finished with 12 points, six rebounds, a game-high four assists, plus a block, her first as a Ram.
Megan Jonassen chipped in eight points, while Downey posted a team-high nine rebounds and a steal. Off the bench,
Sarah Karpell's four offensive rebounds of five total were immense, as was
Maranda Nyborg's three points, five rebounds, and a steal, and
Matilda Flood's third-quarter three and two o-boards.
The Rams outrebounded the Flyers, 41-40, with a 13-7 advantage on the offensive glass. Dayton hit just 33.3% of its shots, 21.4% from distance, but sank 15-of-18 free-throw attempts. Fordham converted just 28.1% of its attempts, 26.1% from distance, and 6-of-8 from the line. It was also the Rams first game this year with single-digit turnovers, committing just seven.
Fordham will look to return to the win column when it hosts Saint Joseph's this Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on SNY, ESPN+, and WFUV.
