SERIES HISTORY: Thursday will be the first-ever meeting between the Rams and Terriers.
On Sunday, it is just the second meeting for Fordham and Quinnipiac. The only previous meeting between the two schools came in 2005, where the Rams came away with a 3-2 overtime win at Quinnipiac.
KENNEDY NAMED A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (9/7): The Atlantic 10 Conference released its weekly women's soccer awards on Tuesday afternoon with Fordham forward
Caitlin Kennedy being named the league's Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Kennedy is the first Ram to earn Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks since Katie Sanchez in September 2006.
Caitlin Kennedy
Kennedy extended her goal scoring streak to four games, netting a marker in both of Fordham's contests last week. She opened the scoring against Marist with her third goal of the season, while netting the game-tying goal at Army. Her four-game goal streak is the first by a Ram since Jessica Widmann did it in 2015.
Through six games, Kennedy is tied for the Atlantic 10 lead in goals and points with Dayton's Marlee Taylor.
LAST TIME OUT: Behind a second half surge that saw two goals in the span five minutes, the Fordham Rams picked up a 2-1 road victory over the Army West Point Black Knights on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was a scoreless period, primarily due to the outstanding play of Fordham goalkeeper
Serena Mensah, who made four saves to keep the Black Knights at bay. She stopped Lauren Drysdale twice in the 15
th and 19
th minutes, while keeping out shots by Dara Murray (23') and Abby Doyle (29').
In the second half, both offenses broke through on the scoreboard, starting with the Black Knights in the 52
nd minute. Off a scrum just to the right of the Fordham net, Elizabeth Oberhaus knocked a loose ball to Alyssa Carfagno, whose shot from eight yards found its way through a number of players for her first of the season.
The lead did not last long, as Fordham answered in the 55
th minute to knot the game at one. After a foul,
Caitlin Kennedy lined up the free kick from 20 yards and scored for the fourth consecutive match from straight on past goalkeeper Taylor Stalheim. It is the first four-game goal scoring streak by a Ram since Jessica Widmann did so during the 2015 season.
Just minutes later, the Rams capitalized on another set piece to go up by a 2-1 count in the 59
th minute.
Schae Groton took the initial corner kick from the far side, which was deflected right back at her. Groton's second crossing attempt was headed down by
Kendall Dandridge in the box to
Jenna Devine, who took the volley shot, scoring inside the right post for her first career goal.
The Fordham defensive core, led by
Claudia Cuicani, would hold the Black Knights to just three shots the rest of the way, none of which were on target, to secure the victory.
WHO'S NEXT: The Rams are only in action once next week, as the squad prepares for the start of Atlantic 10 play on September 19
th against the La Salle Explorers in Philadelphia. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
