Bronx, N.Y. – (September 28, 2021) – In a knock down, drag out match between two conference champions, it was the Fordham Rams making the final play, as
Max Rogers scored in overtime to give Fordham a 3-2 over the Seton Hall Pirates at Jack Coffey Field on Tuesday night.
The action between the defending Atlantic 10 and BIG EAST champions started in the eighth minute, as the Rams got on the board first.
Paul Makaj got the ball to
Max Rogers in the center of the offensive zone. Rogers then made a move with two dribbles and found
Florian Deletioglu for a shot from just outside the box that found the back of the net for his first of the season.
The same combo factored into the second goal of the game for the Rams in the 24
th minute. Makaj got the ball to Rogers for a shot that hit the crossbar. The rebound came right to Deletioglu at the six-yard box, as he tapped in the left-footed shot for his second marker of the game.
The 2-0 score lasted until the 60
th minute, when Seton Hall scored twice on two penalty kicks in a span of two minutes to tie the match. Johannes Pex converted both penalty kicks for the Pirates, as the first was awarded for a handball in the box, while the second was for a foul in the box.
The match ended up in overtime, where Rogers capped a fantastic night with the game-winning goal in the 94
th minute. Off a free kick,
Matt Sloan placed a perfect ball into the box to an unmarked Rogers for the right-footed shot into the left side of the net. It was the third goal in the last three games for Rogers.
In the win, Fordham goalkeeper
Nick Buchholz posted five saves in the win, while Andreas Nota had two stops for the Pirates. The win was also Fordham's first over Seton Hall since 1985.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, October 2
nd, as the team travels to St. Louis for a match with the 15
th-ranked Saint Louis Billikens at Hermann Stadium, beginning at 8:00 PM ET.
