Rams Fall to Richmond, 2-0

Serena Mensah Finishes with Five Saves for the Rams

Richmond, Va. – (September 23, 2021) – An odd bounce or deflection could mean everything in a soccer match, as the Fordham Rams found out on Thursday against the Richmond Spiders, as a pair of bad bounces led to both Richmond goals in a 2-0 Atlantic 10 women's soccer loss at President's Field.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 2-6-2 overall, 0-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond evened its record at 4-4-1 overall with a 2-0 mark in conference play.

The bad bonces for the Rams started in the seventh minute, as defender Olivia Redden looked to clear the ball from the defensive end, just outside the right post.  However, her clearance was blocked by Emma Coleman, right to T.J. Anderson, who tapped the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Another bad bounce led to the second goal for Richmond in the 13th minute.  Elle Dziadzio headed down a clearance by Fordham which deflected off Anderson.  Fordham's Hope Baisley attempted to stop the ball but the deflection went right to Richmond's Jessie Prillaman, who chipped a shot over goalkeeper Serena Mensah for her fourth goal of the season.

The two-goal advantage held up, as Fordham was limited to seven shots in the contest, three of which were turned away by Richmond goalkeeper Taylor Montague.   Caitlin Kennedy had a team-high three shots offensively, while Fordham netminder Serena Mensah finished the day with five saves, one shy of her career-high.

The Rams will have their second Atlantic 10 match of the week on Sunday, September 26th, when the team hosts St. Bonaventure, starting at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
