Men’s Soccer Gets First Win of 2021 at FDU

Alberto Pangrazzi & Matt Sloan Record a Goal & an Assist Each in Win

Teaneck, N.J. – (September 11, 2021) – Behind goals from Alberto Pangrazzi and Matt Sloan and a couple of big stops by Nick Buchholz, the Fordham men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, N.J.

The Knights opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a long throw-in to the box.  Jeremy Opong settled the ball at the top of the box for Ideal Shefqeti, who blasted a shot in the bottom corner of the goal for his first marker of the season.

The Rams knotted the game at one in the 24th minute.  Max Rogers played a ball to the back post for Matt Sloan.  Sloan touched the ball down to Galen Flynn, who found Alberto Pangrazzi on a cross for his first goal of the season.

Pangrazzi and Sloan hooked up again in the second half to give Fordham a 2-1 edge in the 58th minute.  Paul Makaj played a diagonal to the back post to Pangrazzi.  He then crossed the ball back to Sloan for the volley shot and goal, his first of the year.

The Rams were able to hold on to that lead because of a pair of spectacular stops in goal by Nick Buchholz, who came in at halftime in relief of starter Callum James.  After stopping Diego Arribas in the 85th minute, Buchholz came up with a diving save to his left to stop Shefqeti in the final minute of regulation.

Those were his only two saves of the match, while James had two in the first half.

The Rams will next be in action on Tuesday, September 14th, for the Battle of the Bronx against Manhattan College, starting at 3:00 PM at Gaelic Park.
