Riverdale, N.Y. – (September 14, 2021) – Manhattan's Oswald Annang scored in the 59
th minute, as the lone goal of the match, as the Jaspers recorded a 1-0 win over the Fordham Rams in the Battle of the Bronx at Gaelic Park.
Fordham had multiple chances to get on the board in the first half, which began with the Rams being awarded a penalty kick in the 20
th minute.
Matt Sloan took the penalty, but Manhattan goalkeeper Danny DiMarco got a hand on the kick and knocked it away.
In the 26
th minute, a shot by Fordham's
Galen Flynn went off the crossbar, while in the 33
rd minute,
Sebastian Fabrin rifled a shot to the right side that DiMarco made the save with
Luke McNamara having another a shot moments later that glanced off the right post.
The second half continued without a goal until the 59
th minute, when a cross from Brandon Joseph-Buadi found a sliding Oswald Annang in the center of the box. Annang was just able to deflect the ball up and under the crossbar for the goal, his third of the season.
The Rams totaled nine shots the rest of the game, but only one by
Luca Fava in the 85
th minute was on goal, forcing DiMarco to make a save. He finished with four saves in the match for the Jaspers to record the shutout.
Fordham will next be in action on Saturday, September 18
th, when the team opens Atlantic 10 play at La Salle, beginning at 7:00 PM.
