Providence, R.I. – (August 26, 2021) – Providence's Luis Garcia scored twice, while Lukas Burns made two saves, as the Friars topped the #23 Fordham Rams, 3-0, in men's soccer action at Chapey Field in Providence, R.I.
After a scoreless first half, Providence opened the scoring in the 55
th minute, as Gevork Diarbian found Luis Garcia at the top of the box. Garcia cut back to the left and needled a shot through four players into the right side of the net for 1-0 advantage.
The score remained that way until the final five minutes, when the Friars tacked on a pair of unassisted goals by Davis Smith and Garcia. Smith's goal in the 85
th minute came off a turnover, where he was left one-on-one with the keeper, while Garcia's was a corner kick that bounced inside the near post.
In net for Fordham,
Callum James made his debut, recording nine saves.
The Rams are back on the pitch on Sunday, August 29
th, as they travel to #5 Georgetown for a 1:00 PM match.
