Bronx, N.Y. – (April 8, 2021) – With two games left and in full control of their Atlantic 10 playoff hopes, the Fordham Rams took care of business on Thursday night, posting a 1-0 win over the Saint Joseph's Hawks in women's soccer action.
With the win, Fordham extended its win streak to four matches, improving to 4-2-1 on the season, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's fell to 3-7-2 on the year, 1-4-1 in the league.
With the play pretty even in the first half, the first break of the match almost went Saint Joseph's way in the 17
th minute. A long free kick from midfield bounced in the box and got past Fordham goalkeeper
Maria O'Sullivan, but right on the left post was
Kendall Dandridge who cleared the ball off the line and out of danger.
The Rams celebrate a 1-0 lead.
That play was a pivotal one, as Fordham netted the only goal of the contest later in the first half. In the 39
th minute,
Olivia Redden got the ball just over the midfield line and found
Marissa Krenn about 10 yards ahead. Krenn one-touched a cross to the top of box to
Alexandra Taylor, who powered a shot into the left side of the net past Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti for the goal. It was Taylor's first collegiate goal.
The score remained that way despite seven second half shots from the Hawks on the Fordham goal. O'Sullivan was up to the task each time, posting a season-best six saves in the shutout win. The Rams also did phenomenal work in the offensive zone in the later portions of the second half, keeping the Hawks contained in their own end.
The Rams now head to Massachusetts for the regular season finale on Sunday, April 11
th, for a 3:00 PM match with the Atlantic 10 North Division title on the line as well as an automatic spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
