Philadelphia, Pa. – (April 23, 2021) – Saint Joseph's Brendan Hueth went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, while Nate Thomas had two doubles and three RBI, as the Hawks topped the Fordham Rams, 13-3, in eight innings at Smithson Field.
Saint Joseph's (12-8, 7-2 A-10) picked up the early advantage with a run in the first inning on an RBI-double by Nate Thomas, scoring Jake Artz from first.
Fordham (16-11, 3-2 A-10) then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
Jack Harnisch started the rally with a single and stole second with
Chris Genaro drawing a walk. After a groundout moved the runners up,
Zach Selinger connected on a two-run single to left.
The Hawks quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Liam Bendo, and then extended the lead to 4-2, scoring an unearned run on a double play.
Saint Joseph's added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-2 edge, highlighted by a two-run home run by Langston Livingston.
After Fordham closed to within 7-3 on a sacrifice fly by
Alvin Melendez, the Hawks posted four runs in the sixth and two in the eighth for the 13-3 final in eight innings.
Brooks Ey (0-3) took the loss, allowing six earned runs over five innings of work, while at the plate, the Rams managed just four hits with Selinger going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Harnisch and
Will Findlay had the remaining hits for Fordham.
The same two teams match-up on Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
