Bronx, N.Y. - Today we continue to introduce the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2021, recognizing the former student-athletes and coaches who will be honored, as today we recognize an influential "Man of Fordham", Joe Moglia. He joins water polo's Ali Arat, former head rowing coach Ted Bonanno, women's basketball's Abigail Corning, softball's Jocelyn Dearborn, men's basketball's Jay Fazande, men's soccer's Ryan Meara, women's swimming's Caitlin Napoli, football's Mike Nebrich, and men's track and field's Joe McGovern in the class of 2021. They will be among the 13 inductees who will be announced over the next week.
 
Moglia will join the likes of Frankie Frisch, Vince Lombardi, Wellington Mara, Charlie Yelverton, Anne Gregory O'Connell, and Vin Scully in the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame. The new class is scheduled to be inducted on 2021 Homecoming weekend on Thursday, October 7, on the Rose Hill campus. Specifics will be released when available.
 
As part of the ceremony, Fordham will also present the Victory Bell Award as well as honor all current Fordham Athletic Hall of Famers. The Victory Bell will be presented to an individual or individuals who have brought distinction and honor to Fordham University Athletics through achievements not related to competition, coaching and/or administration. The honoree(s) will be selected by the Hall of Fame Committee and will embody a sense of leadership and passion for Fordham Athletics and serve as inspiration to the Fordham Athletics Family.

  • A 1971 Fordham College at Rose Hill graduate
  • Also a graduate of Fordham Prep, where he lettered in football and baseball, earning All-City and All-Conference honors
  • Started his coaching career at Fordham Prep
  • After college, coached college football for 16 years, winning two Ivy League Championships as defensive coordinator at Dartmouth College and setting national records as a defensive and special teams coach at Lafayette College
  • Left coaching in 1984 for a career in finance, first at Merrill Lynch then as CEO of TD Ameritrade, which grew from $700MM to $10B in market capitalization during his leadership
  • Returned to college coaching in 2009 at the University of Nebraska where he coached for two seasons
  • Became the head coach Omaha Nighthawks in the United Football League in 2011
  • Named head football coach at Coastal Carolina University in 2012, leading his team to repeat I-AA playoff success and a move to the FBS in the Sun Belt Conference
  • In his first three seasons at Coastal, led his team to three conference championships, three National Playoffs, was named Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2014, three times named a finalist for National Coach of the Year, both National Runner Up and American Football Coaches Foundation Regional Coach of the Year in 2014, and Eddie Robinson national coach of the year 2015
  • Compiled a 56-22 record at Coastal Carolina – a winning percentage of .718 – making him the winningest football coach from Fordham
  • In his last eleven seasons of coaching college football, was part of eight championship teams
  • Inducted into the following Halls of Fame: Vince Lombardi Hall of Fame; National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, Man of the Year; Omaha Business Hall of Fame; Archmere Academy Sports Hall of Fame; Fordham Preparatory School Hall of Honor; Fordham Preparatory Sports Hall of Fame; Fordham University Founders Society.
  • Moglia has received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Sharp Trophy for Leadership. He has been honored by the Columbus Citizens Foundation, the Irish Arts Center, the American Institute for Stuttering and the Stuttering Association for the Young.
 
Moglia currently resides in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he serves as Executive Director for Football and Executive Advisor to the President at Coastal Carolina and is Chairman of Fundamental Global and Capital Wealth Advisors.
