Volleyball Falls in Four at Duquesne

Moody, Fichtel Combine for 27 Kills in Loss, Snapping Win Streak

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Fordham volleyball team rallied to even its Friday evening contest at Duquesne after two sets but ultimately fell in four to snap a two-match win streak, 19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 16-25. With the loss, the Rams fall to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in league action, while the Dukes improve to 9-10 and 4-4, respectively.

The Dukes used an efficient opening set to take an early lead and the Rams answered with a lengthy second-set run, leading by eight, 20-12, at its conclusion, and withstanding a late charge to take the second frame. It was Duquesne's turn to use a long run, overcoming a six-point deficit to take the third and then controlled the tempo in the fourth.

Whitley Moody led the Fordham attack with 16 kills on 53 attacks with Izzy Fichtel adding 11 kills and a team-high .375 hit percentage, and Aria De La Rosa chipping in nine kills. Moody double-doubled with 14 digs, as did Megan Brzozowski, who racked up 39 assists and a career-high 17 digs, plus two blocks and a kill. Fichtel shared team-high blocking duties with De La Rosa, each with four apiece. Mallory Lipski totaled 27 digs, tied for her second-highest output of the season, with three assists.

The Rams will look to get back into the win column on Sunday at Dayton at 1 p.m.
