Patriot League Release
Bronx, N.Y. – Due to the Patriot League's decision not to engage in competition in the fall season, the 2020 Fordham University football season has been suspended.
Â
"While it is disheartening to suspend our football season, I fully support the decision made by the Patriot League" said Fordham interim director of athletics
Ed Kull. "As I've said before, the health and wellbeing of our student-athletes is our number one priority. It is the necessary step to keep our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and department healthy. We must lead through these challenging times by minimizing the risk and potential exposure of harm to our student-athletes, that is my biggest concern."
Â
In the release, the Patriot League stated that it is committed to exploring creative approaches and alternatives to providing future competitive experiences to the fall sport student-athletes, including the possibility of conducting fall sport competition and championships in the second semester of the academic year.
Â
The Patriot League will allow each institution the opportunity for conditioning, strength training and other practice sessions provided health and safety conditions support such activities.
Â
This will be the first fall without varsity football at Fordham since 1969 and the first without any football since 1963 (Fordham competed at the club level from 1964-1969).
