Women's Basketball Announces Three Additions to 2020 Recruiting Class

Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley Welcomes Megan Bodziony, Matilda Flood, and Riva Walker Pitman to the Bronx

Bronx, N.Y. – Head coach Stephanie Gaitley and the Fordham women's basketball program today announced the addition of three student-athletes to their 2020 recruiting class, joining Maranda Nyborg and Riley DeRubbo, who signed their National Letters of Intent in late November. Joining the pair for the 2020-21 season in the graduating class of 2024 are Megan Bodziony, Matilda Flood, and Riva Walker Pitman.

"We feel this class, along with Maranda and Riley, has really helped us meet our needs," Gaitley said, "They are all talented basketball players, but more important will represent Fordham as winners both on and off the court."

Bodziony Action
Bodziony

Bodziony, a 5'10 guard from Wakefield, R.I., earned three varsity letters at St. Andrew's School under coaches Andrew Shirber and Christina Batastini following her transfer from South Kingston as a sophomore. She completed a decorated high school career as Rhode Island's Player of the Year and a McDonald's All-American nominee. A two-year team captain and team MVP, she was named to the Class AA All-Star team by the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), as well. She returned from a torn ACL to garner Class A All-New England and All-Star recognition, as well as USA Today All-Rhode Island First Team honors, as a junior, after leading her team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Prior to her injury, she was a First Team member for the Rhode Island School Girls Basketball Coaches Association (RISGBCA) as a freshman. She scored over 1,000 career points in three years at St. Andrew's and finished her high school career with averages of 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.9 steals per contest. She also played lacrosse, earning All-State, All-League, and All-Rookie accolades over time. Off the court, Bodziony was a consistent member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Chapin List, the highest honor at St. Andrews.

"Meg will join us as a walk-on after being named the Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year. She had other options but Fordham was the right fit as a university as well as a basketball program and we couldn't be happier!"

Flood Action
Flood

Flood, a 5'9 guard from Bathurst, Australia, played the past six years at Mackillop College, where she also competed in netball. She won a silver medal at last year's U20 Nationals and is an All Schools Basketball champion. She has played with the Bathurst Goldminers and Central Coast Crusaders in addition to the NSW U20s.

"Matilda owns the distinction of being our first Aussie recruit. She is a versatile big guard/small forward who is talented, physical, and strong. The fact that she played Australian Football is an indication of the toughness she will add."

Walker Pitman Action
Walker Pitman
Walker Pitman, a 5'7 guard from Raglan, New Zealand, played at Hamilton Girls High School, the New Zealand Elite, and Waikato Basketball. With the former, she helped her team to fifth place at secondary school nationals in 2016 and 2018, earning All-Tournament honors in the latter year, sixth in 2017, and third place in 2015. In 2018, she participated in the Steven Adams Invitational. With Waikato Basketball Council she has competed at various age groups national championships since 2013 with the U13s, helping her team to silver medals that year and the next. After that, Waikato took home the title in 2015 and 2016 with the U15s and U17s, respectively, and enjoyed gold with the U19s in 2018, and a runner-up last year, and national championships with the U23s in 2017 and 2019.

"We are excited to continue our streak of outstanding Kiwis. Riva is a talented guard that is quick and offensively aggressive. She will add depth to our backcourt."

The Rams return all 14 players from the 2019-20 campaign, with no graduating seniors, following a 21-11 season that would've seen a fifth WNIT berth in the past eight seasons had the coronavirus pandemic not led to the cancellation of further competition. Redshirt junior Bre Cavanaugh garnered the program's first Atlantic 10 Player of the Year award and became the second Ram to be named a WBCA All-American honorable mention.
