Miami, Fla. – (February 15, 2020) – Fighting off rain for most of the evening, the Fordham baseball team was unable to put much together against the FIU Panthers, falling by an 8-0 score, in a game that was called in the seventh inning due to heavy rain.
With
John Stankiewicz on the hill for Fordham, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Panthers picked up two runs on an RBI-single by Juan Teixeira and an error.
Fordham had a chance to respond in the fifth, loading the bases for the second time in the game, but came up empty.
The Panthers then added a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth for a 4-0 lead, before tacking on four runs in the seventh. The rain then hit hard forcing the umpires to call the game.
Fordham had a rough time at the plate, tallying five hits over seven innings, leaving 10 runners on base.
Jake Baker led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base, while
Billy Godrick,
Alvin Melendez, and
Matt Tarabek had the remaining hits.
Stankiewicz (0-1) took the loss, allowing one earned run over four innings with four strikeouts.
Gabe Karslo tossed two innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits.
The two teams wrap up their series on Sunday at noon.
