Miami, Fla. – (February 16, 2020) – Behind four home runs on the afternoon, the FIU Panthers completed a series sweep of the Fordham Rams on Sunday by a score of 18-2 at FIU Baseball Stadium.
The Panthers didn't waste any time taking the lead, posting a seven-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Jose Garcia and a two-run single by Alec Sanchez.
FIU added to the lead with a single run in the second, and two in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for a 14-0 lead.
Fordham cracked the scoreboard in the seventh inning, as
Alvin Melendez scored on a wild pitch, while
Richard Grund came in to score on an RBI-single by
Justin Machado.
The Panthers added four more runs over the course of the final two frames for the 18-2 final.
In his first action since last March,
Joseph Quintal (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Brian Weissert tossed 3.1 innings of relief, giving up three runs on four hits with four strikeouts, while
Cory Wall and
Garrett Crowley each pitched two innings and allowed four runs. At the plate, Fordham managed just six hits, led by
Alvin Melendez was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a stolen base.
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Wednesday, February 19
th, when the Rams host LIU for their home opener, starting at 2:00 PM at Houlihan Park.
