With the 2020 fall sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years.

November 7, 1970 (Bronx, N.Y.)  –
Photo Gallery - An event that Fordham football fans had waited 16 years for occurred today. A varsity football Homecoming game. And the Rams didn't disappoint the 13,568 fans packed Jack Coffey Field, defeating Georgetown, 39-17.
Â
The game started with a ceremony honoring former Fordham great Vince Lombardi, who had passed away in September. Lombardi's widow, Marie, was presented with Vince's retired number 40 jersey by one of his former teammates, Alex Wojciechowicz, and Fordham president Rev. Michael P. Walsh. They were joined by the surviving members of the Seven Blocks of Granite (Nat Pierce, Ed Franco, Leo Paquin, and Al Barbatsky) along with Wellington Mara and Joseph Lombardi, Vince's brother.
Â
Eric Dadd
Senior running back Eric Dadd was the key to the win, rushing for a school record 235 yards and three touchdowns, and the Fordham defense forced seven turnovers (three interceptions and four fumble recoveries), as the Rams handed the Hoyas their first loss of the season. Fordham remains undefeated at 4-0-2 with the win.
Â
The Rams made quick work of the first drive of the game, highlighted by a 45-yard Dad run to the Georgetown 22. Five plays later Dadd gave the Rams an early 8-0 lead.
Â
A one-yard plunge from quarterback Bernie Carlesimo early in the second quarter, set up by a Gerald Crotty fumble recovery on the Hoya 18, increased the Fordham lead to 15-0 before a Georgetown field goal made it a 15-3 game.
Â
The Hoyas were driving just before halftime but the drive was thwarted by the Fordham defense as Tom Harter recovered a Georgetown fumble on the Fordham 13 and the Rams ran out the halftime clock.
Â
The third quarter was all Fordham as the Rams scored 24 unanswered points to take a commanding 39-3 lead. The first score of the third quarter was set up by another Fordham defensive takeaway when Harter notched the first of his two interceptions in the game which turned into a Randy Reis six-yard scoring rush.
Â
Just 25 seconds later, Bob Reis recovered a Georgetown fumble on the Hoyas' 36 and, on the next play, Dadd covered the 36 yards for his second score of the game and a 31-3 Fordham lead.
Â
The Rams took advantage of yet another Georgetown turnover, a fumble recovery by John Sabalis, for their final score of the game, a four-yard Dadd rush, to go up 39-3 late in the third.
Â
The Hoyas managed to score a couple of fourth quarter touchdowns but it was a case of too little, too late.
Â
Fordham dominated the stat page, gaining 326 yards of total offense, all on the ground, while holding the Hoyas to just 94 rushing yards.

Check another one off the preseason list of goals for the Fordham University football Rams. Winning the Patriot League championship! Peter Maetzold connected with Tebucky Jones, Jr. on a ten-yard touchdown pass in overtime to lead the Rams to a 30-27 win over Bucknell University at Christy Mathewson Stadium and help Fordham clinch the 2014 Patriot League title on Friday night.
Â
With the win, Fordham's eighth straight, the #9 Rams improve to 9-1 overall, 5-0 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell falls to 7-2 overall, 3-1 in the conference.
Â
The game marked the second time that the Rams have clinched a Patriot League title at Bucknell as the 2002 squad also won the championship at Christy Mathewson Stadium.
Â
Peter Maetzold
Maetzold, who won his second straight game in place of starter Mike Nebrich, completed 24 of 34 passes for 285 yards and two scores with nine of those completions going to Sam Ajala for 103 yards and five to Jones for 79 yards.
Â
On the ground, freshman running back Chase Edmonds carried 21 times for 103 yards and two scores, his eighth consecutive and, ninth overall, 100-yard game of the year. His two touchdowns give him 20 on the year, tying Edmonds with Kirwin Watson (2003) for the Fordham single season record. His 103 rushing yards bring his season total to 1,425, good for fifth place on the school's single season rushing record list.
Â
Unlike the last time the Rams clinched at Bucknell, a 34-7 Fordham win, this year it was a much more difficult task. The Rams trailed by seven after a Bucknell touchdown with 3:15 left in regulation but Fordham showed its resiliency, responding with a four-play, 75-yard drive in just 1:10 to knot the game at 24 on a four-yard Edmonds touchdown run.
