Bronx, N.Y. – (September 24, 2019) – The annual men's soccer "Battle of the Bronx" has always been a gritty, physical affair between Fordham and Manhattan, and Tuesday night's contest at Jack Coffey Field was no exception. In the end, it was Manhattan's Noah Amissah netting the game-deciding tally in the 93
rd minute of overtime for a 2-1 win over the Rams.
With the loss, Fordham fell to 2-5-1 on the year, while Manhattan moved to 1-5-0.
The scoring opportunities stared in the 22
nd minute, when Fordham's
Sameer Fathazada was able to chip a shot over a drawn out Manhattan goalkeeper, but Tristan Doran was able to knock the ball away before it crossed the goal line for a defender save.
Fordham would get that first goal a few minutes later as the Rams made it 1-0 in the 25
th minute.
Joergen Oland picked up a deflected ball on the left side of the box, ripping a shot inside the post under the crossbar for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The game remained at 1-0 into the second half, when Manhattan tied the game at one in the 64
th minute. Fordham goalkeeper
Konstantin Weis made an initial save on a shot by Felipe Clavijo. The rebound came to Berti Fourrier, who tucked the ball in for his first goal of the season.
That goal pushed the game into overtime, where Fourrier played the ball into Noah Amissah on the run, where Amissah snuck the ball into the low left corner of goal for the deciding marker, his first tally of the year.
In net, Weis has a pair of saves, as did Manhattan keeper Marcellin Gohier.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, September 28
th, for an Atlantic 10 match-up with St. Bonaventure. Game time has been moved to 6:30 PM. It will also be Alumni Day for Fordham, where all former Rams are invited to a pre-game reception at 4:30 PM in the North Dining Hall of the McGinley Center. To register for the reception, click
