Stony Brook, N.Y. – A last-gasp overtime golden goal at the end of the first extra period gave Stony Brook a 1-0 win over the Fordham women's soccer team on Thursday night. With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-6-2 on the year, while the Seawolves improve to 5-3.
The Rams defense kept the hosts off the board for nearly 100 minutes before Francesca Lee struck with four seconds remaining. To that point, the Rams defense had four blocks and
Kelly LaMorte had seven saves. Fordham recorded six shots, two on target, and four corner kicks.
Saige Bingman led the way with three shots, while both
Milan Bornstein and
Morgan Busacca's lone shot was saved by Sophia Manner.
Claudia Cuicani was shown the match's lone card in the 94
th minute. The Rams had three successive shots between the 72
nd and 83
rd minutes, Bornstein's attempt was saved by Manner, while
Danielle Etienne's missed right and Bingman's was blocked. LaMorte made a clutch save in the final minute of regulation on an attempt by Chase Rome. The senior made three further saves in the opening four minutes of overtime, the final shot by either side was Lee's at the death.
The Rams begin Atlantic 10 play this Sunday at Coffey Field when they host St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
