Women’s Soccer Falls to Hofstra

Saige Bingman Nets First Goal of the Season for Fordham

Hempstead, N.Y. – (September 1, 2019) – Despite Saige Bingman's first goal of the season and seven stops from Kelly LaMorte, the Fordham Rams dropped a 6-1 decision to the Hofstra Pride at Hofstra Soccer Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y., behind a four-goal performance by Lucy Porter.

Hofstra (2-2) started with early pressure on the Rams (1-3), as Fordham goalkeeper Kelly LaMorte was tested early, posting four saves over the first 15 minutes of action.

The Pride then took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a bad break for the Rams.  A shot was drilled toward the head of Hope Baisley in the box, where the referee deemed she deflected the ball with her hands up in front of her face, awarding a penalty kick.  Lucy Porter then took the penalty and tucked it into the left side of goal.

Four minutes later, Porter added her second goal of the game to make it, 2-0, in favor of Hofstra.  Miri Taylor saved the ball from going over the end line to the left of goal, kicking back to Porter for a header into the right side of goal.

A third goal for the Pride came in the 30th minute, as a cross from Cailey Welch found Sabrina Bryan for a shot into the left side of goal.

The Rams then cracked the scoreboard in 37th minute in a very offensive first half.  Juliana Mascelli took a free kick from the right side about 30 yards from goal.  The kick was headed out but recovered by Crea Baker-Durante, who laid a pass off to Saige Bingman for a blast from 18 yards into the top right corner of goal for her first of the season.

Hofstra got that goal back on another penalty kick by Porter in the 40th minute after a Fordham foul in the box.

The Pride added two more tallies in the second half for the 6-1 final.  In net, LaMorte finished with seven saves for Fordham.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, September 5th, as the Rams will have their home opener against the Columbia Lions, beginning at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
