Piscataway, N.J. – (August 25, 2019) – Rutgers' Nneka Moneme scored three times, while Amirah Ali had a goal and two assists, as the Scarlet Knights upended the Fordham Rams, 5-0, in women's soccer action at Yurcak Field in New Jersey.
The two teams were scoreless through the first 28 minutes of action, primarily due to the outstanding netminding by Fordham goalkeeper
Kelly LaMorte. LaMorte was credited with five saves over that span, which included a punch save over the bar in the eight minute and a point blank stop to left side of goal on a shot from Tiernny Wiltshire in the 18
th minute.
The Scarlet Knights' attack would finally get one past LaMorte in the 29
th minute, as Nneka Moneme netted her first marker of the season with the assist going to Amirah Ali. Rutgers made it 2-0 three minutes later, as Wiltshire knocked in her first goal of the year.
The score stayed at 2-0 to the half, but Rutgers would add to the lead with three more tallies in the second half for the final margin of victory.
LaMorte ended the match with seven saves, one shy of her career-high, while Rutgers starting goalkeeper Meagan McClelland recorded one save off an
Amanda Miller shot attempt in the 61
st minute.
The Rams will next be in action on Thursday, August 29
th, as Fordham takes part in the annual Battle of the Bronx against Manhattan College, beginning at 7:00 PM at Gaelic Park.
