Nick Honor Named Met Rookie of the Year

Freshman guard honored by the MBWA

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham freshman guard Nick Honor was named the 2019 Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Rookie of the Year it was announced today. He will be honored on Tuesday night at the 85th annual NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner (oldest such awards program in the USA) at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.
 
Honor becomes the fourth Ram to win the Met Rookie of the Year award over the past six years, joining Joseph Chartouny (2016), Eric Paschall (2015), and Jon Severe (2014), and the seventh overall (Chris Gaston (2010), Bryant Dunston (2005) and Joe Paterno (1986)).
 
On the season, Honor led Fordham in scoring (15.3 ppg) and assists (95 - 3.0/game). He was the top-scoring freshman in the conference, ranking 15th among all NCAA Division I freshmen. He also ranked among the Atlantic 10 leaders in three-pointers made/game (2.2 – sixth), assist/turnover ratio (1.8 – eighth), and free throw percentage (.816 – ninth).
