Amherst, Mass. – The Fordham softball team fell, 4-1, in the rubber game of its series at Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon, the team's first series loss in seven tries in conference play. With the loss, the Rams fall to 24-22 overall and 15-5 in league action, while the Minutewomen improve to 23-19 and 11-4, respectively.
Massachusetts never trailed in the contest, pushing ahead in the first inning with an RBI double and plating two more in the third on a two-run home run. Senior
Jordy Storm got one run back with a solo home run in the fourth, her 10
th of the season, but the Minutewomen responded in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single.
Madie Aughinbaugh suffered her first loss in conference play in her 14
th start, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits and no walks, with three strikeouts over six innings.
The Rams tallied six hits and a walk, with Storm,
Sarah Taffet, and
Julia Martine each reaching twice. Storm also doubled in the contest, while Taffet singled and walked, and Martine singled and was hit by a pitch.
Chelsea Skrepenak and
Deanna Burbridge also singled.
Fordham returns to the Bronx to round out the regular season, first hosting St. John's on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. before welcoming Rhode Island for three games next weekend.
