Softball Falls Late at George Mason to Conclude Weekend

Rams Rally for Four Runs in the Seventh but Patriots Walk Off

Fairfax, Va. – The Fordham softball team rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to tie Sunday's series finale at George Mason but the Patriots walked off in the bottom half of the frame. The Rams fall to 11-19 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 play, while Mason improves to 12-17 and 2-4, respectively.

Held to just one run over the first six innings against Marina Vitalich and Bekah Ansbro, Fordham erupted for four runs in the seventh. Deanna Burbridge led off with an infield single and Chelsea Skrepenak reached on an error. Jordy Storm drove in Burbridge with a single down the left field line and the bases became loaded when Madie Aughinbaugh reached on another error by third baseman Hannah Thomas. Rachel Hubertus drove in Skrepenak with an infield single before Maria Trivelpiece singled through the left side for a third run and Molly Roark knotted the contest up with a sac fly on an 0-2 pitch.

The draw didn't last long as the Patriots walked off in the first three batters. Liz Seymour, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored from first on Adriana Erickson's double to the right centerfield gap.

Aughinbaugh made the start for the Rams and allowed three runs, two earned, over her four frames, while McGrath suffered her third loss. Hubertus, Roark, and Trivelpiece all tallied two hits apiece. Hubertus smacked a solo home run in the fourth for the visitors' first run and scored twice in the game.

For the weekend, Aughinbaugh led the way at the plate and in the circle. The junior batted 6-for-12 while firing a 1.91 ERA over 11.0 innings, including one complete game victory. Storm continued her hot hitting by going 5-for-11 at the plate (.455) with a team-high three runs, while Trivelpiece also enjoyed a 5-for-11 weekend with four RBIs and two runs scored. Roark paced the team with five runs driven in.

Fordham has the week off before its home-opening series against Dayton next weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Both days' games will begin at noon.
