West Point, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team rebounded from a loss to Army West Point last night with a 7-0 shutout of St. Bonaventure today in a match played at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center at Army.
Fordham opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Arina Taluyenko and
Tatiana Grigoryan defeated Penelope Abreu and Andrea Roque, 6-1, at first doubles while
Nicole Li and
Alexis Zobeideh were victorious over Kahlei Reisinger and Emily Stanley at the second position, 6-4, and
Whitney Weisberg and
Gianna Insogna upended Buse Gunay and Paula Velilla, 6-2, at third doubles.
The Rams then won all six single matches, five in straight sets, for the 7-0 win. Grigoryan knocked off Reisinger at second singles, 7-5 and 6-2, while
Maia Balce defeated Andrea Roque at the third spot, 6-2 and 6-0. At fourth singles,
Nicole Li upended Gunay, 6-2 and 6-0, while Insogna took care of Stanley at the fifth spot, 6-2 and 6-3, and Zobeideh shut out Velilla at sixth singles, 6-0 and 6-0.
The only match to go to a third set was first singles where Taluyenko took the first set from Abreu, 6-4, before dropping the second , 7-6 (1), but she came back to win the tiebreaker, 10-2.
